Matching the RIGHT
Tanning Bulb to a Bed is Critical....... Tanning
Bulbs Selection of Lamps Selection
of tanning lamps is critical in maximizing the potential benefits of sun exposure
while minimizing the potential risks associated with either too much or too little
sunlight. All tanning bed manufacturers adhere to specific technical guidelines
as to matching a particular beds design, power and time to UV lamp output; and
respectively, to individual technology in developing a lamps performance by phosphor
additives.
There are over 100 lamp brands, but ONLY FOUR Tanning Lamp manufacturers.
As you can see by the chart on last page, two of the Brands, Cosmedico and Light
Sources are preferred by almost 60% of the industries tanning salons as polled
by Tan Today magazine. Salon de Sol, exclusively lamps its Tanning beds with only
Cosmedico or Light Sources lamps.
As noted, there are numerous brands
and configurations available in re-lamping a bed. The Salon de Sol tanning beds
have been re-lamped to provide an opportune tanning environment for the salons'
clients.
Benefits of Tanning Beds:
Tanning beds can save your valuable time. As compared to outdoor tanning, tanning
beds offer a quicker tan in a lesser time. Instead of spending lengthy hours in
the sun to get a tan, a tanning bed session lasts for only 10 to 20 minutes. Once
a tan is established, the tan can be maintained by undergoing one or two sessions
per week. Another benefit offered by tanning beds is its convenience.
Those who work for long hours and those live in urban areas may not get sufficient
time for outdoor tanning. Hence, tanning beds are very much convenient for such
people. Tanning beds offer privacy to the user, which is not possible
in outdoor tanning. Tanning necessitates the use of skimpy clothes and some people
find it embarrassing to wear such clothes in public. Tanning beds help you with
privacy. Outdoor tanning may not be possible throughout the year, especially
in winters and in countries where full fledged sunlight is rare. In such cases,
tanning beds are of great help. Tanning beds can provide you with an
even tan, as the rays are emitted from all sides in a uniform manner. This is
not always possible in case of outdoor tanning. Tanning beds can offer
health benefits too. Exposure to ultraviolet rays helps the body to produce vitamin
D, which is essential to prevent diseases like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis
and many forms of cancer. It is believed that the heat produced by tanning
beds is beneficial for muscles as it can provide relief from muscle pain.
Tanning beds are also used to treat some skin diseases like psoriasis and eczema.
It is said that the ultraviolet rays are responsible for this therapeutic effect,
which is also helpful to dry out acne. Some studies show that tanning
beds can positively affect the mental state of the users. Many people felt happier
and more relaxed after their sessions in the tanning beds. According to some researchers,
this phenomenon may be due to the increased levels of endorphin (a neurochemical
occurring naturally in the brain and having analgesic properties) in the body,
after tanning. Tanning beds are found to be beneficial in treating seasonal
affective disorder (SAD). SAD, which is also known as winter depression or winter
blues, is a mood disorder in which people who have normal mental health throughout
the year experience depressive symptoms in the winter and less frequently in summer.
It may be the 'feel good' factor of tanning beds, which is responsible for the
positive effects on SAD patients
History of Tanning Lamps: While
studying the beneficial effects of ultraviolet light on athletes, German scientist
Friedrich Wolff noticed an interesting side effect - tanned skin. Realizing the
appeal of a beautiful tan, Wolff founded the indoor tanning industry. His research
led to development of indoor tanning equipment and lamp technology. Called "the
father of indoor tanning," Wolff brought his European technology to the United
States in 1978. He set the standard for the industry with specialized lamps and
a reflector system that was ideally suited to indoor tanning. His research on
UV light and its effects on skin led to the development of lamps which emit both
UVA and UVB for the darkest tanning results with a minimized risk of sunburn.
Today, the company operates in North America and Western Europe, and has patent
licensees in Belgium, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. Tanning
is the result of cells in your skin called melanocytes, producing melanin pigment
in reaction to ultraviolet light in sunlight. Ultraviolet light The pigment has
the effect of absorbing the UV radiation in sunlight, so it protects the cells
from UV damage. Melanin production takes a fair amount of time - that is why most
people cannot get a tan in one day. You have to expose yourself to UV for a short
period of time to activate the melanocytes which continue to produce melanin over
the course of hours. By repeating this process over 5 to 7 days pigment builds
up in your cells to a level that is protective. Ultraviolet
B Light (short wave ultraviolet) stimulates melanin production....The pinkish
melanin travels up through the epidermis and is absorbed by other skin cells.
When exposed to Ultraviolet A light (longer wave),
the melanin oxidizes or darkens. This darkening is your skin's way of protecting
itself against too much UV light...we call it TANNING! The
relationship between UV-A and UV-B light production, SKIN TYPE and TIME are critical
to developing a tan. All Salon de Sol Tanning Beds incorporate lamp technology
to ensure a balance between these factors. Specific beds and lamp choices made
for these beds are designed to provide the appropriate balance between UV-A and
UV-B Light exposure; that when coupled with a scheduled development period and
regimented exposure schedule will provide for the opportune looking tan. Solaris

Canopy lamps are manufactured by the company that pioneered the development of
sunlamps and today, one of the World's Leading tanning lamp manufacturers, Cosmedico.
The VHR Patent and Trademark designation defines Cosmedico's technology breakthrough
for lamp design offering greater performance than other competitive reflector
lamps and enhanced lifetime performance. The VHR-TT lamps phosphors are complimented
by a small volume of a stable and aggressive UVB "emitter.gas". The
result is a lamp with the same superb tanning properties of the VHR and the added
'kick' provided by the UVB component in enhancing melanin production. The
contoured Bench, incorporating 16 "AUVL's, X6
