ABOUT WOLFF

While studying the beneficial effects of ultraviolet light on athletes, German scientist Friedrich Wolff noticed an interesting side effect - tanned skin. Realizing the appeal of a beautiful tan, Wolff founded the indoor tanning industry. His research led to development of indoor tanning equipment and lamp technology. Called "the father of indoor tanning," Wolff brought his European technology to the United States in 1978. He set the standard for the industry with specialized lamps and a reflector system that was ideally suited to indoor tanning. His research on UV light and its effects on skin led to the development of lamps which emit both UVA and UVB for the darkest tanning results with a minimized risk of sunburn. Today, the company operates in North America and Western Europe, and has patent licensees in Belgium, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

Wolff Tanning Bed Bulbs vs. Non-Wolff Tanning Bed Bulbs

Today the lamp industry is comprised of two basic types of lamps: Wolff System Lamps and non-Wolff System lamps. The Wolff System is the combination of the bed and the lamp intentionally designed to provide the user the maximum benefit and highest performance. All other lamps are non-Wolff Systems.

In the Wolff System Technology Corporation’s history, more then 20 million lamps have been sold, making Wolff lamps the most widely and preferred. The key success in a lamp’s ability to tan is the phosphor design. Most of Wolff lamp’s phosphor designs are proprietary, meaning they are owned by the company and cannot be used by another manufacturer. In addition to the phosphor, Wolff lamps are one-of-a-kind due to Wolff system’s systematic approach to quality control and maintenance (effective useful life) characteristics of the lamps. This is why Wolff System brand lamps are perceived by many as being superior to others available in the industry.

Tanning is the result of cells in your skin called melanocytes, producing melanin pigment in reaction to ultraviolet light in sunlight. Ultraviolet light The pigment has the effect of absorbing the UV radiation in sunlight, so it protects the cells from UV damage. Melanin production takes a fair amount of time - that is why most people cannot get a tan in one day. You have to expose yourself to UV for a short period of time to activate the melanocytes which continue to produce melanin over the course of hours. By repeating this process over 5 to 7 days pigment builds up in your cells to a level that is protective. Ultraviolet B Light (short wave ultraviolet) stimulates melanin production....The pinkish melanin travels up through the epidermis and is absorbed by other skin cells. When exposed to Ultraviolet A light (longer wave), the melanin oxidizes or darkens. This darkening is your skin's way of protecting itself against too much UV light...we call it TANNING!

The relationship between UV-A and UV-B light production, SKIN TYPE and TIME are critical to developing a tan. All Salon de Sol Tanning Beds incorporate Wolff Tanning Lamp Technology to ensure a balance between these factors. Specific beds and Lamp choices made for these beds, i.e. Velocity, Velocity Plus, or Bronzing Bulbs are designed to provide the appropriate balance between UV-A and UV-B Light exposure; that when coupled with a scheduled development period and regimented exposure schedule will provide for the opportune looking tan.

The 336's contoured Bench design and respective "Velocity" bulbs provide custom designed tanning specs for close proximity radiant power. Notes:
For 332, the Canopy is slightly stronger than 336. Bench is same. Plus facial tanners and Light Therapy.

For 442, The Canopy has 26 Bronzing Sun "Reflector" bulbs, which are about 20% greater in UVB than 336 bulbs. Enhanced melanin production with similar UVA as 336 for richer tan. Bench bulbs, Velocity Plus, about 10% stronger UVB than 336 trending to immediate color with the desirable delayed tan.

For 548, Canopy has 32 Velocity VS-R 160W "Reflector" bulbs offering proportionate UVB and enhanced UVA, 40% stronger than Canopy bulbs of 442, to further develop tan for mature and regular tanners. The 548 Bench, has 16 Bronzing Sun Plus bulbs 5% grater UVA than 442 bench bulbs trending to immediate color with the desirable delayed tan.
